The Identity Journey

Why did I write the book Redeeming Identity?
When I have conversations with people about the upcoming release of the book, this is one of the first questions I am asked.
Writing a book is not easy. It takes a lot of time and energy. So, there needs to be a reason for someone to be willing to go through the work and sacrifice it takes to write a book of any type.
The simple answer is that I had to write the book.
It seems like a simple answer, but it is really the truth. I was the last person who wanted to write a book. Throughout my life, I had never seen myself as a writer, regardless of what others said about my writing.
The change started several years ago, when I received insight into identity that changed how I understood my own identity as a Christian and how I viewed the Bible. I had been going to church since I was a kid, and what I learned was something that I had never heard previously.
I took some time to study Christian identity from this new perspective, to both make sure it was Biblically accurate (I had to make sure it was true) and how far-reaching this was (I wanted to know if this would help others). The more I looked and studied, the more it grew in importance and scope.
When I had the opportunity to share this with others, there was typically a realization of how much this could impact their own understanding of identity. It was different from what they had been hearing from the church. The resulting question was, "When are you going to write a book about this?"
I appreciated the thought, but I also knew that I was not writer.
Eventually, while I was spending time with God, I surrendered and, even though I was not a writer, said that I would write a book if this is what He wanted.
I knew how much this had changed my understanding of God, the Bible, and Christian identity. My interactions with others had helped me see that this was also a message that would help others in their walk with God. It was a message given to me so I could share it with others, and they could know Him and discover His calling for them.
I had to write the book, even though I was not a writer. If I did not write it, it would have been wrong. I was called to this, and I needed to follow Him.
I have been faithfully following Him the past few years in researching and writing Redeeming Identity, so that what He has given to me can be shared to bless, encourage, and even challenge others.
I am constantly made aware of the truth that God's strength is made perfect in our weakness. He has a great sense of humor in that He called me, a non-writer, to write a book, so that I am constantly reminded that this is not my message, but His.
I had to write the book to be obedient to who He has called me to be, a teacher and author of His message, so that others can learn more about knowing Him and who He has created them to be.
Now, as we are getting closer to the release of Redeeming Identity, I am excited to see what He is going to do in the lives of others and in His Church through it. This month, as we are looking forward to its release, we are going to be spending some time introducing some ideas from the book.
I hope that this builds your anticipation of what He is going to do in you, as you discover who He has created you to be. If He called me, a non-writer, to become an author for Him, what can He do in and through you?
