The Identity Journey

The Not Yet...
I went to Temple University for many reasons, but one of them was to receive my bachelors degree in education. Shortly after getting my degree, I received my teaching certificate, stating that I had the knowledge required to be a teacher of secondary math courses.
I was officially a teacher. The certificate stated that I could be a teacher in any classroom, providing instruction in secondary math courses, from pre-algebra to calculus.
I had taken classes on curriculum and instruction practices, knew how to create a lesson plan, and had a semester of student teaching, but I was still at the beginning of my journey of becoming a good teacher.
The certification stated that I was a teacher. My education provided knowledge and skills to be a teacher. I even had a job as a teacher. But, I still had to develop into the teacher I would become.
This is a simple example of the already but not yet situation that we experience as Christians.
Once we are saved, one of the many things that we receive from God is a new identity. He gives to us the identity that we were created for and from which we are to live. This is a reality. We are a new creation, from God's perspective.
The additional reality is that we do not yet fully experience living out of this new identity. This is the "not yet" aspect of our new identity.
The corrupted identity that we have developed throughout our life still exists and is still active in determining what we think, feel, and do. Working counter to the new identity that we have been given. This is the battle between the spirit and the flesh, described by Paul.
For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.
Romans 7:18–20
Although God had declared us a new creation, we still need the redeeming of our active identity, so we can fully become who God created us to be and live out of our new identity. This is the "not yet" aspect of our new identity.
At Redeeming Identity, we want to help people both discover their new identity in Christ and experience the transformation process of putting off their old identity so they can put on their new one. It is only as we cooperate with God in this process that we can fully experience the life that God created us for.
Join us in this journey of identity transformation and invite others to see how God can work in their lives, with us.
